Speaker's Task Force on Foster Care

Learn about the foster care reform effort led by the Wisconsin legislature. In 2017, the Speaker’s Task Force on Foster Care, a bipartisan committee, developed a set of recommendations to address the needs of children, with a focus on helping families caring for children who enter foster care and in preventing the need for children to enter foster care in the first place.

Foster Forward Recommendations

In February 2018, the Wisconsin Assembly enacted 13 bills known as the “Foster Forward” reform package, based on recommendations from the Speaker’s Task Force on Foster Care. The package now awaits consideration by the Senate. The 13 bills focus on keeping kids in their homes and out of the system, giving foster children better medical care, and paying for their college.
