See this article in the New York Times about a Florida school teacher who adopted a student who was living in foster care. The article cites federal data showing the breakdown of families that recently adopted children from foster care:  68 percent are married couples, 26 percent are single females, 3 percent are unmarried couples and 3 percent are single men.
