See this article about how more than 100 foster parents organized an advocacy event on the state’s Capitol steps to call attention to the need to support foster parents. Advocacy efforts are focused on ensuring effective implementation of a law enacted last year by the Washington legislature, House Bill 1661, a bill to transform the state’s foster care system. The law will merge the Department of Early Learning, foster care, and adoption programs into the new Department of Children, Youth, and Families on July 1, 2018. Juvenile justice programs will also be incorporated into the new department the following year.
